Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Where Past Is Not Forgotten

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Where Past Is Not Forgotten | The Pennywize

Throughout Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, there were several instances where we tried to bring ourselves back to our far-off youth. To stand atop industrial scaffolding and towering mountains in the futile belief that we would disappear into a simpler period by spending time with these legendary figures in these familiar places. One where we could keep being sucked into nostalgia rather than focusing on the future.

This reworking defies expectations by attempting to both leave the past behind and hang onto it at the same time, creating an extended, experimental masterpiece that ends with a shattering crescendo. As its name implies, Final Fantasy 7 is a brand-new game.

Rebirth builds its world-building on the narratives of earlier movies and video games, such as Crisis Core and Advent Children. However, rather than just recycling existing storylines, it puts more emphasis on enhancing and presenting them freshly.

This progress does not negate the fact that rebirth is a universal experience. Its subversive story requires prior knowledge to be pieced together, but it expands on known characters and settings just enough for new players to not find it difficult to follow. As we played, there was a sinister joy in witnessing a close friend attempt to put together the early hours with inquiries that were equally weighted in terms of curiosity and confusion.

Such sentiments have always been evoked by Midgar and its surrounding biomes, and this is still true even if many subtleties are missing from this dieselpunk fantasy realm. You’ll be continually amazed and delighted by how a story is so steeped in melodrama throughout its 14 chapters, with gripping character arcs and a richly developed backstory that elevates antiquated PlayStation graphics to fantastic heights.

Just a few seconds after Remake finishes, Cloud Strife and their companions seek refuge in the charming village of Kalm to reminisce over their past with Tifa and Sephiroth. As Sephiroth murders everyone in sight and discovers his actual fate at the hands of Shinra and Jenova, we watch as his hometown burns to the ground.

However, when all of these scenes come to pass, their veracity will be questioned, as though everything that happened in the first game and the individuals who experienced them had somehow altered. Rebirth often subverts our assumptions by using set pieces, people, and settings that appear familiar on the surface but have a lot more depth. Nothing is as it seems. The most amazing thing about Square Enix’s rebirth of these ancient roots is how it has incorporated narrative and storyline into a strangely constrained open world where each small quest and discovery is worthwhile pursuing.

There are six areas outside of Midgar. They range from lush rainforests, where flora has overtaken the remnants of a capitalist past of avarice, to deserts, where Mako has been drained from the earth. Each game offers a plethora of side missions and bustling cities to investigate, in addition to a broad range of extracurricular activities and hidden objectives, from quick-time events that are exciting but short-lived to extremely difficult boss fights.

Additionally, there are notorious towers to scale, which will result in symbols all over your map; however, we will only ever have to deal with two or three of these at any given moment. The diversions in Rebirth are tempting rather than overpowering. You are given a reason to stray from the well-trod route beyond experience grinding to defeat difficult enemies, along with extra backstory and plentiful prizes for exploring the map’s fringes.

Conclusion

We feel like we haven’t covered everything in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, including a plot we’re eager to have explored and debated in the years to come as we wait for this ambitious trilogy’s conclusion. We were apprehensive about this sequel because we thought Square Enix would ruin the wonderful game and make it into a boring open world with all the worst aspects of contemporary game design. Even though it’s not flawless, a lot of work has gone into making Rebirth seem real, substantial, and incredibly heartfelt. For more gaming updates visit www.thepennywize.com.
